Hi! I'm going to get my first Brazilian waxing done in a two weeks, and my question is... Is there such a thing as the hair being too long to get waxed? If so, what do you do in that case? Also, I heard that a nice warm bath right afterwards is a good idea for your sick to heal better, is that true?

And I was just wondering any other tips that can be offered as well.

Thanks!

Hi :)

For this type of wax the length of the hair greatly impacts how badly the wax hurts in my experience. Longer hairs pull more and can leave some bruising to this sensitive area so I would recommend trimming before you go (down to about 1/2 an inch), but if you don't have time (or can't reach) the esthetician will likely tidy you up before she starts. A nice warm bath after the wax is a BAD idea....it opens up the pores and can become extremely irritated, instead wait to shower/take a bath until the next day. Take 2 advils/ibuprofens about 45 minutes before going in, they REALLY help with the ouch factor. The most painful part isn't what you would expect, it is actually near to the top. You will undoubtedly have some redness and swelling afterwards which will disappear within a day or so, but where only cotton panties and avoid using any perfumed products near your nether-region until it goes away. If the skin is sensitive a trick, as weird as it may sound, is to soothe it with olive oil (you can also use aloe vera). After about a week you should start exfoliating to avoid ingrown hairs and to smooth it out :) Hope this helps! I think it's totally worth it!

The first time hurts the most so dont quit after that!! Take 3 or 4 ASPIRIN about an hour before you go, not Tylenol - you want the blood thinning effects.

I have never heard that the length is too long, although it can be too short. If you think its too long, just trim first. As far as the bath, if you do take one, dont add any soaps, or salts etc as they might sting - the skin is very irritable. I recommend powder. And dont wear a gstring - it gets stuck! Where cotton or silk panties that are comfortable.

Some salons also have a balm that numb the area if put on about 1/2 an hour ahead of time. I havent tried them, but for a first wax, it might be worth a shot!

I actually just got a Brazilian done last week and the wax lady said that it's actually more helpful if the hair is longer. I guess that it gives the wax something to grip to when it's being pulled. She also told me that when you bleed from the procedure, that is actually helping to kill the hair follicles so the hair won't grow back. That's pretty cool. I hope that you are not on your period or near it when you go, though, because the pain will be even worse than usual. Good luck and I'm sure you'll love it!

No tips other than trim down the hair you currently have. Longer hair pulls more.
You can soak after the waxing but I don't think you will need to providing it was done correctly.
You shouldn't have to "heal" it is just like getting your legs waxed. If you bleed or skin is torn off then you did not go to a reputable place or they just don't know what they are doing.

The person giving you the Brazilian will first trim the hair with small scissors. Then she will do the waxing job. Good luck.

I would imagine it could be too long and that they would trim it. I prefer shaving, waxing is way too painful....
