Hi: Registered Nurse here; Norovirus is easily killed, by spraying surfaces with Lysol spray, a fine mist and allowing to dry. Avoid bleach solutions for these are very irritating to the nasal passages and mucous membranes which include nose, mouth, throat. Washing hands with warm water and soap is the single most important thing one can do to prevent and stop the Norovirus. Once contacted, just have to ride it out. Drink plenty of fluids, juices, Gatorade, pedi-lyte, (even if an adult). Also give your Gastrointestinal system a break, eat saltine crackers, chicken noodle soup, rice, bananas, chicken broth, toast with small amount of margarine or butter, toast and tea, good for you and easily digested. If not better in 24 to 72 hours or your condition worsens please seek medical attention.

On surfaces, use a bleach solution, like Clorox cleaning spray. We recommend a 10:1 solution (10 parts water, 1 part bleach). Wash soiled linens and clothes with hot water. Bleach if you can.

Do not take antibiotics for norovirus. Treatment is supportive; drink lots of fluids, take Immodium and anti-emetics if you must. Otherwise, you will be okay in about 24-72 hours.

ADDENDUM, FOR STRAWBERRY: The bleach recommendations are lifted directly from the CDC. Lysol is good, and it works, but it doesn't work nearly as well as the 10 to 1 bleach dilution. It is dilute. It doesn't smell nice, but it does the BEST job of killing noro. And given that the skilled *nursing* facilities have such big problems with controlling noro (and that the SNFs have to come to us for help), I'd say we've got the upper hand on keeping the virus in check.

On surfaces, a mixture of bleach and water, or Lysol. On your hands, hot water and soap. In your body, your immune system, but it's going to take a few days.
