Firstly, I'm really sorry to hear you've been feeling down a lot. Among the symtoms of depression are overeating, feeling hopeless and useless, and having thoughts of suicide. You need to talk to someone you know well and trust because it's very hard to come out of a depressive mindset and enjoy living. If you don't have a true friend, you could always seek counsel from a professional who would guide you along the way... at least you know there will be someone you can rely on... that you're not alone.

I am 21 and also feeling really down a lot. I know i am dealing with depression right now because i have delt with it before. Try searching online for health sites. Or try seeing your doctor about it. I have never seen a doctor for my depression. It usually resolves on it's own. But when i was younger i was sent to a lot of psychologists for it, but it never helped.
I know i am depressed when i don't want to do anything that i normally like. I don't draw or paint, i don't want to go to the coffee shop, i don't want to go out to rent my favorite movie. I spent the majority of my day laying in bed so far. I got on hear also to ask about depression. I also have no appetite. I go from cupboard to cupboard trying to find something to eat, and nothing sounds good. And even my two kitties aren't making me feel a lot better, and they normally do. Plus i kinda just feel worthless, i'm having issues with how important my life actually is. I know there are other signs of depression, and ones that i have that i am probably just not realizing. But maybe this will help.
Ways to chear up (and i need to take my own advice). Watch a really funny movie. Or just get out of the house, take a walk or ride a bike, anything outside (if it is warm where you are.) Or go see your friends and family. If you see them having fun, then a lot of times it will help cheer you up. I know, since i am depressed, it is hard to actually get yourself to do them, but if you do, it should help you feel better.

Tired all the time all you want to do is sleep. Bored with everything you start doing. Age has nothing to do with it. Everyone goes through depression at least once in their life time.
You need to start getting out and having friends and family around you.
If you can see a Dr. for help don't buy any drugs over the counter they could cause you more problems then you already have.

I found when I had depression attacks I would work on my paintings and crafts, I found it very relaxing and helped me a lot.
Personally I don't believe in doctors. Some people need them though

Feeling sad for no reason. Lack of energy. Eating too much or too little. No desire to leave the house.

Those are just a few. There are many websites on the net that would give you a more detailed list of the warning signs.

If you think you have depression you should probably seek medical attention. Thoughts of suicide and or hurting yourself are some of the more serious symptoms.

If it's effecting your day to day life, then you have depression. If you don't want to get out of bed, go to work, hang out with friends or do the things you loved to do.......get help from a doctor right away.
