I will not hesitate in saying that YES using the computer has the potential of becoming an addiction. There does not have to be some chemical dependency to have an unhealthy addiction. There is also a difference between office use of a computer and home use of a computer, which is where the addiction is usually developed. Look at the many recreational uses people get out of a computer. Its no wonder many people are addicted to it. There are people who spend 18 hours a day chatting, playing video games, surfing the Internet, looking at who knows what, and so many other things. I have seen marriages fail because of computer addictions. Relationships crumble because the spouse gets tired of looking at the back side of someones head, because they are continuously in front of a computer. These people need to get off of the computer and learn how to communicate with people that are physically around them before their "computer bum life" ruins their life. So, yes, computer usage is addictive.

Yes, and let me tell you why: Addition usually stems from a lack of something in a persons life they are trying to fill. With drugs it's usually lack of attention, with sex it's usually lack of love, with computers it's usually lack of companionship.
Think about it: A computer will never let you down, tell you negative things about yourself, never hurt you. You don't run the risk of interpersonal relationships that can result in heartache.
So, yes, I do believe it is an addiction in which there is a deeper lying problem.

Did you read your question carefully ? You're asking if we think an addiction is a addiction. It's like asking if a black dog is a dog, or is a white house a house ?

I think it can be an addiction. So it may not have any chemicals that are biologically addicting, but like other habits, it can be psycholoically addicting.

It may not be the computer but the interaction with the people and the information you get from it. You have the whole world at your finger tips.
