A man lay dead in the middle of the desert, he has no obvious injuries (cuts, blood, etc). Next to him is a softball-sized rock. how did he die?

he froze to death, and slept next to the rock to keep warm.
some deserts get very cold at night, and rocks hold heat that they absorb through the day.
