Well it all depends onhow long you guys have been dating if its been a while just tell him that your not that interested anymore and that you guys should see other people. If its only been a few days or weeks then just say that its been a little to awkward because you guys are either too good of friends or that you dont know him well enough

Saying "its not you it's me" is a lie. Because it usually IS them and you just don't want them anymore, for whatever reason. I think the TRUTH, no matter how man lines it has, is always the best answer.
