Hi funky,

Are you connecting your camcorder to your pc with the firewire lead?

If you are, it sounds like you have a error with your camcorder or your computer. Have you done this before and did it work alright then?

Windows Movie Maker is almost foolproof and when you connect the camcorder to your PC via firewire, it will automatically detect it and you should be able to start capturing footage to edit it.

We just got one of those, Samsung MiniDV8, it came with software pkg, Ulead, which did a much better job of editing than the MS Moviemaker, which was shaky and crappy. We were able to put it in sections onto our PC, but then when burning it to a disc, it seemed to take FOREVER!! it was only done 1% after a half hour, so we quit, and will try to mess with it again later. Our sound and video came out quite nice actually with the software it gave us.

windows movie maker will do a crappy job but useabel, anything else will cost you though. if all you want is to capture then dump the footage to dvd something like neo dvd will do the job. as for editing, xp machines still don't come close to macs but if you import the footage to wmm and then export it after basic editing you will be able to burn it to vcd or dvd depending on the software/hardware you have

wow....your asking alot for in uncomplicated terms 200$....i might pass with the Canon Powershot SD 1100 IS. It has 8 megapixels, face detection, a cost up battery, a form of colours, 3.0 optical zoom, is easy weight, and intensely chic. although that's approximately $249, you may pass to Costo and that they have got it for greater decrease priced and incorporates a reminiscence card.
