I prayed about being gay and got the answer that it is ok. Why do religious people think it is a sin?
I know everyone will quote some obscure verse in the bible but I want to know what the reason behind it is?

I think it is ok if you are gay; and all participants are at the age of consent.
God Created you the way you are, and God created me the way I am.
God does not make mostakes; so you are that way for a reason, Maybe to teach the ones that are bent out of shape a little mercy and compassion.

No need for Bible quotes here.
Think about it. There's a world, created by God...this world has a lot of things in it...sex is one of them. And all things have a basic "rule". One of the rules for sex is, that only a man and a woman can have sex...our bodies were made that way. The normal "rule", the natural thing for love is to be towards the opposite sex. ergo if you are attracted by your same sex, that's unnatural...like sin..sin is unnatural too...it's actually breaking the rules...gayness is also breaking a rule...ergo it's a sin...a sin breaks the rules God made for this world...+ i could quote you verses form the bible, which actually show disgust towards this type of sin.
So that just couldn' t be God, who told you that this is right...I'd say that was mr satan trying to trick you.
Just think about it. And talk to a pastor near you about this:)

Wow! You sure got lots of answers. I think if you can't help being gay, God knows that . He also knows that by your praying to Him you don't wish to be disobediant, but to seek his aproval in all things. I don't know that God told you It's OK but God knows the condition of you heart and that's what's most important to Him. By the way, all the bible verses about this topic are ussually refering to cassual fornication or male prostitution.

I prayed to God and god an answer, then you talk about "religious people" and "obscure verses in the Bible", clearly denoting that you think religious beliefs are silly. Therefore , I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you did not really pray to God and receive an answer.

The reason is the verses in the bible. we follow a set of laws or rules put in place by GOD. Please friend , think about the answer. I know it must be difficult to face , I have a friend that is in the same battle you are in now. He has struggled for some time with his desires and his faith. I just told him , we all have temptations in life, just be true to your faith ,and GOD will give you the strength to get past anything. Best of wishes on your path!

You have to line up what you think is God with his word (the Bible) if you get a contradiction you have to realize the demons of this world can try to influence you. Lucifer wants to be God so make sure you are listening to God by lining up the answers with the Bible.

What most of the answerers above don't realize is that GOD DID NOT WRITE THE BIBLE. Hell, I'm an Atheist and I still know they are wrong even in their religion. Man wrote the bible. So stop saying that God can't contradict himself when he didn't even write the damn thing.

I would have to say that the reasoning behind the common conception that homosexuality is wrong is that it is abnormal (sorry if that offends you, it isnt meant to. Just saying it was out of the norm). During the times when the Catholic church was trying to spread and extend power, different was bad. The reason the druids and others were killed during the Inquisition. Making everyone the same. When people are the same they are easier to govern. Look at us now, we are all different in America and what kind of problems we have.
Just my two cents, could be wrong, could be right. No way of knowing.
And what makes you all think that the people who wrote the bible weren't being whispered to by "satan"? By all means please email me, I love these discussions.

I think if you heard "god's voice" you need to get some psychological help.
*Anything* you want to do, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, is "OK." You don't need the approval of a mythical magic guy in the sky. And you don't need his condemnation, either. Be true to yourself, try not to harm other people, and do what it takes to make yourself happy. That's all you need to worry about.
