While I certainly don't think that girls with tattoos look like sluts, I do agree that you should wait until you are 18, simply to keep the peace with your mom. I myself took my 16 year old for her first tattoo on her birthday, with the agreement that it be small and that she wait until she's 18 before she gets another one.

First of all I have to say your mom is looking out for your best interest but putting people down when she has never met them is ignorant. Second I am a woman with 6 tattoos and I am not a slut nor do I look slutty. Third you should wait until you are 18 just for the reason that you don't need to do anything illegal. If you want one now you'll want it even more in two years. Make sure you are sure of what you want. I got a tattoo when I was 18 that I was so sure I would love all my life and up until I turned about 29 or so I did. Now my kids are growing and I am getting older and I don't thing having the word Superfreak around my bellybutton is as cool as I did at 18. Take your time because it is a life long choice.

Not only am I going to tell you that it's illegal, but I'm also going to tell you that any tattoo shop that will tattoo you when you're 16 without a parent's consent, probably doesn't follow many other rules when it comes to tattooing, and you MIGHT end up with a nice new DISEASE to go along with your cool new tattoo.

I know you think you know what you want, and you think ignoring your parents is cool, but don't think people are telling you not to do it just to be rude.

There are reasons why people aren't supposed to be tattooed until they are 18.

One is the fact that your body might not be done growing. Therefore, if you get a tattoo on your body, and that part continues to grow, you're going to end up with a distorted tattoo.

Also, if I would have gotten all of the tattoos I wanted when I was 16, I would have been kicking myself in the A** by the time I was 18.

I'm 22 now, and I have 15 tattoos. I had to wait until I was 18, because my parents wouldn't sign for me, either. And I am VERY glad that I did wait.

So don't think people are just trying to make you mad by telling you that.

Just wait until you're old enough.

Tattoos aren't dumb and aren't slutty. Some girls are dumb and slutty, regardless of what kind of art they have on their body. Especially the ones that go into a tattoo parlor JUST to get one, and have no idea what they're getting and end up with a butterfly on their hip so they can pull their pants down to show guys. Totally lame, and it gives the rest of us tattooed girls a bad name.

Yes, you should probably wait til you're 18. One of the best pieces of advice I ever got about tattoos was to have your piece all planned out and then hold onto it for a year or two. Now would be the perfect time for you. Pull out your design in a year or two when you turn 18 and see if you still want it. Chances are you'll do a lot of emotional growing and changing in between 16 and 18 and your ideas will change.

Just don't rush it. You have forever, and it won't go out of style anytime soon.

Wait till you are 18, not because it is illeagle but if you can't get your moms permission the only other option for you is some dude in his garage with a home made tattoo gun, that could end up awful! It's only 2 more years, get an idea for a tattoo in mind and see if you can stick with it until then... do some research on where to get it done so you know you will be happy with it forever.

Wait until your older. My husband has this terrible tattoo on his shoulder that is all faded that he got when he was 16. I know he regrets it. Or maybe not. Make sure if you get a tattoo, that it means something to you. People are going to ask you about it for the rest of your life so you need a good story to tell or otherwise your only reason will be that you felt like it or It looked cool?? I think they are not good enough reasons to get a tattoo. Put it on you bottom. At least if it's hidden you won't have to worry about people seeing it in later life when you don't like it anymore.

I turned 18 about three months ago and three days later I got a tattoo. It's a band around my wrist. Tattoo's can look slutty however they can also look tasteful. I suggest you wait until you are 18 in most states it is illegal to tattoo a minor without parent consent and you don't want your mom to freak out too much. Besides you will love it a whole lot better if you wait and build up the anticipation. Just keep in mind when you enter the business world tattoos are not exactly respected so just make sure it is tasteful, easily hidden, or in a place where no you don't want seeing it can see it.

I would wait also. As mature as you think you are, you have a long way to go. I got my first tattoo when I was 15 or 16, and I've since pretty much covered it with other, more meaningful tattoos that I've actually put thought into. Just wait. You don't need a tattoo to be cool.

And please, if you get one anyway, don't put it on your lower back! Your mom would be right about that one, you'd look like every other tramp that puts a tattoo in that spot.

well this is the way i see it.
Im 16 to and i would like to get a tattoo but i don't have any that would have a good meaning to me.
So as long as you go around and find a tattoo that you absolutely love and are satisified with and won't get sick of in a few years you should be able to get one.

I find it interesting that you are in a hurry to get something that will last the rest of your life. If you plan on getting a tattoo because of the meaning behind it, will that meaning change if you wait another two years?

Tattoos serve another purpose that you never hear about. It is a sign to every guy 18 and up that you are of legal age. If you have a tattoo at age 16, some guy may end up going to jail because you couldn't wait. It's another form of I.D. for us older men.

In summery, you are too young because:
#1. You are still jail bait
#2. You aren't old enough to make choices that will impact the rest of your life
#3. You still live with your parents
#4. You can still get a tattoo in two years without changing the meaning behind the tattoo
#5. It isn't fare to the guys to say you are legal when you are still jail bait

I hope that you will take my advice. If not, I hope that you will stay in your house or hide your tattoo until you turn 18. Again, you can always get the tattoo later without pissing off your mother.
