Does anyone know what super-realism is? Do you know of any works that represent super-realism?

Super-realism, or 'hyper-realism' was at once called 'photorealism' and basically started as a movement in the late '60s with people like Ralph Goings, Richard Estes, Robert Bechtle, John Salt and a few other lesser-known artists. It essentially referred to paintings (and later, sculpture as well, see Duane Hanson as mentioned above), that were photographically realistic. The artists tended to depict very mundane, normal scenes instead of traditionally or classically 'beautiful' ones. Subjects such as typical city streets, pick-up trucks, diners, wrecked cars, urban landscape etc.

Looking up any of those artists will probably get you lots of images of their work.

Super-realism is like photorealism but has an eerie quality to it that goes beyond reality. Christopher Pratt is one good example of a super-realist painter. See his work here

Click on the yellow signs on the left that say "Gallery Page #1"
"Gallery Page #2" etc. After viewing all his work on this site you will have a very good idea of what super-realism is all about. Personally it leaves me cold but I study all art whether I like it or not.

Superrealism usually refers to photorealism, paintings that look like photographs, or sculptures that look like the real thing. Good superrealists to look up are Richard Estes, Chuck Close, and Duane Hanson. See a list below.
