The literal world will never end.

The earth abideth forever.-- Ecclesiastes 1:4, KJV. See also Psalm 104:5.

Jehovah God will not allow that; he is going to "destroy those who are destroying the earth." - Revelation 11:18, KJV.

The "world" that is to be destroyed is the wicked world of ungodly people; the righteous will remain forever. -- Psalm 37:9-11, 29; Proverbs 2:21, 22; Matthew 5:5; 2Peter 3:5-7.

The account in the third chapter of 2 Peter talks about the world being burned up with fire is symbolic as can be seen from verse 7, which clearly states that it is referring to the destruction of ungodly people.

Here is the context:
"For, according to their wish, this fact escapes their notice, that there were heavens from of old and an earth standing compactly out of water and in the midst of water by the word of God; and by those means the world of that time suffered destruction when it was deluged with water. But by the same word the heavens and the earth that are now are stored up for fire and are being reserved to the day of judgment and of destruction of the ungodly men."

The world that was destroyed in Noah's day was the world of ungodly men, not the planet earth. Likewise for us in the near future.

Fire,

2Peter 3:7 And God has also commanded that the heavens and the earth will be consumed by fire on the day of judgment, when ungodly people will perish.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

2Peter3:11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives

Dear Mr. D. Juan:
Romans 15:4 states "all the things written before were writen for our instruction".
The Bible shows God has often used the elements of nature to discipline mankind.
e.g. the waters of the flood, the apparent volcanic eruption of Sodom and Gomorrah.
So, we can place a safe bet that fire and flood may be used ....though not necessarily earthwide.
God has also enabled situations wherein the enemy starts killing themselves.
e.g. Gideon against Midian. Judges 7:22
Though you didn't ask, I feel it important to add the thought expressed at 2 Peter 2:9 which indicates the 'destruction' will not be wanton.

Well, this world will not end by fire nor flood. I believe what it says in the bible, that God destroyed the earth with the great flood, and when Noah and his ark reached dry land, there was a rainbow. God said to Noah "This rainbow represents a promise, a promise that I will never destroy this world again, so whenever you see this rainbow, remember my promise." This is only what I believe in, you don't have to agree at all :) BUT I think that humans will destroy this earth before God does..
