I had a problem with my 1992 Celica alarm some years ago, it used to immobilise the car but would not release for upto 12 hours, I was told that many Toyota's of this age had an aftermarket alarm fitted (Not original Toyota)
I found a good local auto electrician in the Yellow pages, he removed the alarm and immobiliser but left the car with the working remote locking.
No more trouble after this and it only cost £45

Most car alarms have a "valet switch". Its located under the dash on the drivers side. With the key in the ignition - hit the switch. It will de-activate the alarm.
