They should be blanched before freezing. Bring a pot of water to a boil and immerse the pre-washed collards into it for about a minute. Do not put the greens in before the water boils or they'll start cooking. Drain and let them cool and then you can freeze them.
Or you can just skip several steps and buy them frozen in the first place. They're just as good as fresh and much less labor intensive.

YOU CANNOT FREEZE FRESH GREENS! THEY GET MUSHY! You have to cook them first, and then freeze them. My daughter mistakenly put my fresh collards in the freezer and they were completely ruined! They will be the consistency of defrosted frozen spinach if you freeze them. TRUST ME! COOK THEM FIRST!

It's best to wash them first,that way you don't freeze any gravel with them.Also,add a LITTLE vinegar to them before freezing.
