When republicans' cut veterans benefits every chance they get. When republicans, at least in this last war, did not see to it that the soldiers got proper body armor.
Please explain this too:

While it is true that republicans fund the military more than democrats, isn't it also true that they CUT funds that assist the troops when they get home? How can you support that?

Nobody on the republican side wants to tackle the real question. If republicans love the military so much, WHY DO THEY CUT VETERANS' BENEFITS?

2006-12-11 04:22:06 · update #2

Again, don't be blinded by reality. Verterans' benefits IS THE MAIN ISSUE when it comes to caring about the military. If you vote to cut them, you DONT CARE about the soldiers. Republicans constistently VOTE TO CUT THEM.

I can't.
It defies explanation.
The military vehicles are falling apart from harsh climate and extra weight from soldiers having to improvise additional vehicle armor in the field.

A cynic might speculate that well connected contractor is having production problems and is exerting influence on Government.
Money is more important than a soldiers life.

The " other armor is untested" arguement from your link is BILGEWATER.
The other armor is being tested...in the field ...under real world conditions.
Let the soldiers improvise.
They are not stupid.

I suspect that an officer with balls will ignore the governments edict.

It's reciprocal. Republicans tend to support defense spending (and to the junior enlisted soldier that sees a nice percentage increase in his salary, this is very important).

The VA budget gets hit along with everything else in big government. Republicans try to institute a system that help people not be so dependent on governmental organizations to survive. However, I submit that the VA is not an enemy of the conservatives.

As far as body armor goes, everybody is issued a kevlar vest which protects against minor ballistics. No one could have accurately predicted the widespread tactic of IEDs that render these vests impractical. The real question is: Why did the Clinton Administration decimate the military budget in the 1990s reducing the size and scope, and thereby limiting force projection ability by the 21st century.

Define proper body armor. I always had a helmet and a flak jacket with a crotch plate and shoulder covers. it weighed 40 pounds. Anything more would have slowed me down. Slow means target.

Good question on cutting veterans' benefits. That ticks me off. Did they cut benefits across the board, or just the ones that no one needed anymore and were sucking up money?

As far as why the military favors republicans...I think it's because the democrats are too busy favoring welfare programs and troops are all about getting the job done instead of blaming someone else for their problems.

Cutting veterans benefits is a one-issue deal. Each party platform (Republican and Democrat) has many, many issues involved, and it is important that no one become a one-issue voter.

As a military family, my husband and I carefully study out each candidate before we make a decision on who we want to vote for--and when we decide, we get involved (at least a little) in the campaign by promoting our choice candidate.

This coming election, we have decided that we will probably vote Republican. This, however, has little to do with the military. We are against homosexual marriage and abortion. Also, Mitt Romney, who is running for office, shares our religion and has been very pro-Military while he served as Governor of Massachusetts.

Those are our reasons--beyond that, I can't help you.

Let's get one thing squared out from the get--go
the military gets their biggest run of money and upgrades in rank and bonuses when there is war ---- no doubt about this ---- and ---especially the top brass get their stars far quicker and the "brownie points" that come from service in and around the "hot zone" --- this is fairly much a common knowledge thing !!!
And, it seems to be the Republican who provide these people with more wars to stretch their military muscle into than the democrats--- also --- almost every single major military spending spree in the last thirty years (I'm not talking supplies and normal upgrades here--- I'm talking major spending sprees) have come at the signoffs from the Republicans --- and the funding deal alone sets a lot of these high ranking officers in line for super civilian jobs within the companies that supply the military !!!

But. once you get down within the ranks of the actual rank and file of the military there is far more open view of the political structure and the numbers for and against the Republican "buy off" begins to even out considerably !!!

The military does not favor any political party.

People in the military tend to be Republican because that party most closely represents their views.

Kind of makes me wish that the Democrats would ask themselves why they consistently alienate the people who are willing to defend their freedoms.

PS - it is not about pay raises or defense budgets. Clinton treated the military as another constituency to be bought and lost what little respect he had in the first place.

Well I'll tell you this, because Republicans do not cut down our military numbers, they don't make the Army smaller and they raise the pay for our military members. If it was up to the Democrats, our soldiers would be fighting with sticks as to not hurt the Iraqi's too much.

The military doesn't play favorites. The Republicans aren't afraid to use our military to defend us and advance our ideals. The wimpy Dems think the military is for display purposes only and they're afraid to take a military stand with anyone! Wake up, jerk! You probably believe that we're in Iraq for big oil and to line Bush's pockets with all that 'oil money' too! Right?

Well look at how the democrats denigrate the soldiers Kennedy Kerry,Gore,Durbin,Dean I could go on and on. Look at how they don't follow thru with our commitment Vietnam,Somalia ready to cut and run in Iraq if you were a soldier would you trust them. As for the story about body armour you can't bring your own , just like they don't allow you to bring your own firearm, ever heard of standardization.

The military doesn't favor any party unless that party is going to give them a raise in pay! I should know, I'm retired Navy.
