Feb of 2009 is the magic number, but as mysticman stated, all that has to happen is analog transmitter will be turned off. Local station (Over the Airwaves) broadcast will have to be digital. This can still be 480i (SD) but it does not have to be High Definition.

Only real thing effected will be TV sets with analog tuners, they will not be able to receive any signals. To aid the consumer, there are digital tuners available that will attach to the set via "N" connector to provide a digital to analog conversion.

FYI..The "N" connector is the standard antenna in connector.

No such date, February of 2009 is when all over the air signals must be digital. There is NO mandatory HD conversion date, it is just a widespread rumor.
