I've found that spraying the bottom of the tree with bitter apple works awesome with my cats. The only drawback is that some people don't like the smell. Check it out at your local pet store.

I have used this old wives' remedy: place a bit of cayenne pepper on tin foil squares and place the squares around the base of the tree. Cat won't want to climb it because of the scent. If that doesn't work - try keeping all breakable ornaments away from the bottom, bolting the tree to the wall.

Water guns are only a temporary fix, same with that spray that you put on the tree (they do not like the smell). I had a cat that used to bother my tree, but the 2 I have now, do not mess with it at all. I noticed that this time, I do not have any round mirrored ornaments. Maybe that is what attracts them most?

Use a water gun. Everytime the kitty goes to the tree, squirt him and he'll learn.

cats love trees and things and most likley you can't keep him/her away so put the breakable ornaments up near the top and the plastic non-breakable ornaments at the bottom
