An adult mistreating another adult deserves either mediation, censure, or civil lawsuits.

Depending upon how well went the family relations afterward, going to the police/lawyer and denouncing him is still a good option. If the abuse stopped and things went better then having an open conversation should be a must to clear things up. Talking to a therapist first would be the best thing.

You are an adult. Give him the warning to stop. If he doesn't press charges on him. Do not stoop to his level by physically fighting back with him. Neither of you will get ahead by this. If all else fails you can take a Protection from abuse out on him or a restraining order.

Drop all contact with him. Mention what is going on to other family members as this may be a medical/mental conditon manifesting itself in abusive behavior.

Sounds like there is some serious underlying problem. I really dont know what to tell you to do, maybe try to talk to him and see if you can figure out what is going on.

Get away from him. Go to a teacher/counsellor. Stay by a family member you trust.
