Honestly, the very best cheap gift that will make almost every man happy is one of those assorted cured meats-and-cheeses packs that you can get at just about any grocery store for under ten bucks. Hickory Farms are a personal favorite, but the brand really doesn't matter, they're all good. Vegetarians are less than 5% of the population so you should be pretty safe with this.

A book is a good gift. I like to give the large coffee table books as they are a big showy gift. Most people won't say that the don't like a book as a gift.

If you buy a bad gift like a tie or maybe a tacky on sale sweater,it could just make you look really cheap. Do yourself and this guy a favor , just be nice ,and buy a decent gift.
