It is possible. Just clone the drive.

You can not simple copy Windows from one PC to another. It is not able to copy itself.

They do make some "cloning" software such as Norton Ghost and Drive Image that allow you to make a perfect copy of one hard drive onto another. Except you have to have both drives in the same computer (hard to do with a laptop) or you have to make a full backup on CD or DVD of the first drive and then restore it on the second drive. Those software packages are expensive

The "cheap" way to do it. Like in the "C:\documents and settings" directory. You will find a directory with your log in name in there. 95% of the "customizing" of you PC is under that directory. Create an ID will the same name on the new laptop and then log on as the administrator and open that folder over he ID on the new computer. You will get most of your settings that way. You will however still have to install any software programs you want. This just brings over the settings for the programs.

No, when windows first installs it assesses what hardware you have. Even changing out a mobo can bork a windows install. A direct copy will not work.
If you want a free OS for the new build give LINUX a try.

that's not possible, even if it were it wouldn't be legal. there's no way to spoof an operating system. you have to have the disc itself. operating systems are 1 user license programs. you could use the disc to install windows onto the computer, however - it will recongnize that the serial number was already used and determine that it's fraudulent.
