Beer has yeast, like bread. And we all know what bread does to the mid-section!

I'm assuming you mean "hard drinks" :) Have you ever heard the phrase: "Liquor before beer, all's clear! Beer before liquor never sicker?"
(I think :)The reason for this is that beer is not absorbed as fast and contains a good bit of water. Beer also contains more gases (that's why it "heads" sometimes when you pour it).
Hard liquor causes the stomach to shrink.
Hence you should never drink beer first! If you drink hard liquor after, well...as your stomach shrinks, that excess beer has to go somewhere...:) Hopefully, not all over your new shirt!

All alcohol will make you fat if drank in excess.
It all has colories and hard liquor actually has more than a light beer. Regular beer has a high number of carbs and requires more to be drank for effect than its hard liquor counter-part, that is why beer is supposedly the drink that makes you fat.

Beer contains many more carbohydrates and calories than hard liquor and therefore turns into the fat beer belly. They don't call beer "liquid bread" for nothing.
