The real answer is price, colors and sharpness. If you look at an LCD and plasma side by side, you will see the following:
1) LCD is sharper, where plasma has softer edges.
2) LCD has bright and vibrant colors, where plasma has deeper and realistic colors. In another words, plasma has better contrast ratio.
3) Prices are starting to normalize, but I believe plasmas are still a little more expensive.
4) Burn-in can occur faster with plasmas. If you take care of your tv and don't leave it on one station all day long, this won't happen.
As far as high def support, connectivity and features, they are all the same. Personally, I like plasmas because of the color and softer picture. I find that LCD's have oversaturated colors and too sharp of a picture. To be honest, it is a personal preference. For some people, LCD works. Other people, like plasmas. Then, there is the smaller percentage of people who like DLP. You need to go to the electronic store and look at both technologies and see which one you like better. YOU will be the one looking at it all the time, not us.

They are 2 different technologies and both have their benefits & draw backs.
The main points are size, greater than 42" you pretty much have to go with plasma. Less than 42" you have to go with LCD. LCD's have smaller pixels so they can achieve a very high resolutions at smaller sizes, so virtually every LCD TV is a HDTV and the pixels are so small you can sit as close as you want to the TV which is what also makes them excellent PC monitors. Plasma pixels are alot larger than LCD pixels, matter fact plasma's less than 50" can only achieve a max. resolution of 1280x720 (720p) due to the size of their pixels, you laso have to sit back several feet from a plasma before the spacing between the pixels is not noticed (but at larger sizes you can't sit but so close anyway).
LCD used to reign as the flat panel with the longest lifespan, but recent plasma manufacturers have been claiming that they too can last for 50,000+ hours or about 10-15+ years, but we'll have to wait & see if this claim proves to be correct (of course the warranty will have run out long before this).
Note: If you're in the market for a TV less than 50" I wouldn't get caught up in HD resolutions, in sizes at or less than 50" 720p, 1080i & 1080p are not noticeably distinguishable. The larger the size the more detailed the higher resolution will be. In a large plasma (say 80 inches or so) 720p will be easily recognized from 1080p.
