I want to buy it as a pressie for a friend this Christmas. At the moment he has Photoshop CS2 and is tinkering around with it, but he would really like some in-depth info and help from a book. I’ve seen a couple but I want to get the best one. Ta very much in advance!

Thanks so far! But if anyone knows first hand a particular book that beats all others, that would be ace!

As much as I'm not a fan of the series in general, Photoshop for Dummies is a pretty good book, especially for someone who's not a really skilled user to start with.

Suggest you go to
www.amazon.com

Look for the link for books
then look for the link for used books
run a search for books on your program

I have purchased many used books here and all I have received so far are in new condition - with ever so slight scratches or bend on the cover. No biggee, and I got a $30 book for $3.

Check: www.lynda.com. They offer video courses (DVD and online!!!!). Some chapters of the course you can try out without buying. The Photoshop course is great. They show the workspace, and a voice shows tells you what to do.
