1 pound powdered sugar is anywhere between 3 1/4 and 3 3/4 cups. Start with the smaller amount in your recipe and check the consistency. If you're making frosting, you might want it to be thicker or more liquid, depending on your personal preference. If you're baking, I'd suggest compromising in the middle, around 3 1/2 cups or going with whether you prefer slightly more sweet or less so.

Cooking is all about experimentation! I don't think any recipes will be ruined by 1/4 cup powdered sugar so try it out and figure out what you like. Good luck!
