i have an 8 month old german shepherd pup and i am wandering why SHE humps on her mom when they play sometimes is this normal?

she's trying to display dominance. has she been fixed? that usually helps stop it.

our pup did it with her toy (a giant leopard bigger than her) but it stopped once she was spayed.

Dogs do that, both male and female. Yes it's weird and gross, so you can discipline her for it every time you catch her in the act buy pulling her away and saying no, or giving her a little swat if she doesn't listen to the first reprimand. I would say try and break the habit. It's really not hurting anything, but like I said, it's weird and gross.

It is completely normal and you should not punish her for it. She is just trying to be dominant over her mother. My dogs do it once in a while and they are all female. She will eventually grow out of it once they have the pecking order straightened out.

she is doing it to show that she is the ALPHA female, or that she is trying to be. I grew up with two female dogs and at first Bobbi would always hump kootenay even though they were both female.

It is normal. She's just growing up.
