The dust bowl was a weather condition tha sprang up in the midwest, centered in Oklahoma that created a hostile growing condition for farmers. As such, many farms failed (including share croppers). Those that owned the land had legitamite debts, so they too were affected. Sadly, they foreclosed on many homesteads. this forced the farmers to leave for better conditions (westward to California).
With a depression going on it was difficult for these displaced people to find work, employment etc.. tousands wound up living in make-shift shanty towns, full of people with little money or food.
The movie the "grapes of Wrath" is an excellent example of how some of this integrated.

Farmers went broke and overfarmed the land and as USA and Australia originally relied on the country for money (Still do in a large part) when the farms ran out of money the banks took them over (UK banks mostly).
Now in that time the city was 100% reliant on the money from the farmers... we still are somewhat economically.
So when the farmers went broke the banks took back the farms and everyone was in debt to banks, inflation rose, noone could pay there rates and loans so economically we all downslided.
So that is how it relates to the dust bowl, we farmed in areas that were not viable to farm in (who farms in a drought area where the average rainfall was previously analized to be not enough?) making alot of land barron hence dust bowl. We also borrowed money to expand and buy the farms so when it didn't work out the countries economy was sent down with banks taking back not just farms but people's homes also not being able to cope with the rise in interest rates.

The dust bowl was due to a drought during the time of the great depression (no rain = dust). Farmers were not yielding any crops, so there were not many jobs open for harvesters.

The dust bowl caused farms and banks to collapse in the midwest. Thus driving farm prices and agricultural futures down. At the time the U.S. Was an agricultural country. Most of the stock market was based on agriculture. When it failed, the country tumbled like a set of dominoes.

The "depression" in the great depression wasn't just about economic struggles. People had also lost their hope, and though families like Tom's struggled to remain optimistic, even they succumbed in the end. The novel isn't about the economic suffering--it's about the wear on the human spirit.
