I mean...I understand that you have to be in love and know that she is the right one.....but how long after that? I've been with my bf for 2 years and we are madly in love and he always talks about our future and having kids and everything....but he has yet to pop the question.....

everyone is different! Why dont you propose to him? Times are changing, women can do that now.

There are two things to think about:
1) Your (and his) age. When you get older, you know yourself better, what you want, what you don't want, and most importantly, what of the stuff you don't want you can deal with because you love the person. When you are younger, you are just less sure of everything so it takes longer.

2) Where he is in life: Similar to #1 above -- you too might be crazy in love and be a great match, but there may be other unresolved things in his life. They might be things you know about -- like deciding over a career, or a mom with cancer, or some deeper issues that he is still working though. When a guy is feeling that way, he might not propose because he feels he wants to be more squared away on where his own head is.

That said;

If he's under 25: 2 -3 years
If he's 25 - 3: 2 years
If he's over 30: 1 year

Whatever you do, don't go an propose yourself. He knows that is something he is supposed to do -- and something you want. If he's not doing it, it means he does not want to/is not ready do. If you propose to him, it will make everything very awkward... and gain you very little.

Good luck!

If he talks about future and kids, you should pop the question to him then. It's not a bad thing for the woman to do the asking and you won't be breaking any rules.

Time doesn't matter. I was with my bf for 3 months before we decided to get married. Engaged for a year. You just need to make sure that you're going in with your eyes wide open and are in agreement on the big things.

2 years, asumming that you are both mature, responsible adults with jobs and careers and the financial means to get married.

Men like to feel that they can "provide" for their family and won't propose until they feel that they are financially stable enough to do so.

If you already waited 2 years, and assuming that you are both over 26 years old and working, then it should happen soon. Charitsmas is just around the corner, so is New years eve and Valentines day, all popular days to por the question.

If you are still in school or still figuring out your life, then expect to wait a little longer.

Good luck

My wife and I, met and lived together for almost 9 years before I proposed.

Just a mutual choice, we were not sure if we wanted or needed marriage, we were happy the way we were.

Just last Christmas, I decided that we should get married, so I proposed and we did.

For me it was nearly 18mos from the time I got my first letter from my wife(Jan 25, 1997) & I proposed to hear on the same beach in Northern California where we had our first kiss a yr earlier(June 2, 1998). We then got married in Houston on Dec 19 of that same yr.

i know I am a female but my man waited 6.5 years. It felt like forever but when the time came I knew he had thought about it and made the decision from the heart. My brother on the other hand only waited 8 months. I guess it depends on how you approach the relationship. Good luck

I asked my wife after 6 months (knew after 3), however I was 31 and knew that I was looking for Mrs right and not dating for fun. I think the older you are the faster its gonna happen.

If your in your early 20's waiting another year will not kill you.

I am girl... too.. Sorry
It took my husband 4 years.. because we need to get to know each other and we had our things to do in life.. and i was still young... and having his parents meet you and his parents meet your parents.. and of course asking your parents for hand of marriage.. (and see if his parents like you too) and now i been marry for two going for the third year...
Remember Marriage is the next step into your life.. and you need to see your self are you going to grow old with this person or not and are you willing to give up something in life to be with him....
