It would be an interesting expirement to see who opposed its use. Probably both sides woud be against it; the Christians, Jews and Muslims putting it down because it critiqued them, and the separationsists, believing it to be some sort of indoctrination into religion. The premise that God has changed over time will certainly anger believers.
Would it be a good book in a course on religion? Certainly. People need to realize that "religion" can be taught as a sociological study. This book would fit into a comparative religion course well.

That would depend on the book itself. If there is enough literary quality to the book, it might be used as a reading assignment, but no book should be mandatory reading for all high school students

I don't think any book should be mandatory reading as far as book reports and literature. If there is a book that offends you in anyway you bring it up to the school board with your reason why you think its offensive or why it should be mandatory.

No, it would be wonderful college text but is too long for high school ...where students need to learn other things then the history of monotheism
Plus, it would just stir controversy...maybe in a catholic high school religion class, it would be OK

I really enjoyed that book, and I think that it and others like it might give people a more well-rounded view of what God is to a variety of different cultures, and that no one perception of God is more valid than another, and of the type of thinking that leads humans to believe in God. And also the complexities of religion, including its dangers.. as well as benefits.

No, religion should be a personal choice. I now see why atheism is sometimes called a religion.

Only in a religious school but, not in public schools. Believe it or not , not everyone is religious and should not be forced to read it.
