Unless you can find a way to go to the dentist, there's only so much gum or mints can do. It sounds like you just might have plaque build up. Even if you brush and floss everyday, it still builds up and can cause an odor. Until you can go to the dentist, you'll need to make sure to brush, floss, rinse with Listerine Mint and make sure to scrape your tongue at least twice a day and if possible, after every meal. On top of that, drink plenty of water. This should help with the odor until you can get a dental checkup.

Fresh parsley. just chew a small amount it will help temporarily.
Scrape your tongue when you brush your teeth. You can get a tongue scraper at the drug store in the toothpaste and toothbrush section. Bacteria builds up on the tongue just as much as on the teeth and gums.
Since you haven't been to the dentist you probably need a teeth cleaning to remove the plaque build up on your teeth.
If you cant pay for the Dentist in full. call around sometimes they will take a partial payment with a payment schedule. Also, Depending on your income you may be eligible for medicaid which would cover most if not all of your medical expenses.
Get info through your local county office. Make sure to figure out how to get your teeth cleaned and taken care of as it is just as important as the rest of your body. And in most cases dental issues get worse the longer you wait to go. So it may cost a little now...But a whole lot later.
Good luck!

In the absence of periodontal disease or serious cavities you require oral anti bacterial conditioning.
Brushing, flossing, tongue scraping, and a good long swish of a potent antibacterial mouthwash.
In addition to oral antibacterial conditioning, I debride my mouth with hydrogen peroxide. Don't drink it, just swish it around a couple of times a day. It will do wonders for breath poblems.
