Get your cat to the vet and get the area looked at. Due to open areas a bad infection could set in. Don't wait on this.
Cat's don't self mutilate. She's licking for a reason and maybe the vet can help find out why.

Also, look for hidden food allergies. I know of several dogs that nearly scratched themselves bald in places and allergies to the food they were eating was found to be the cause. Yes, they get allergies just like we do.

Have the vet check for infection. Usually cats and dogs will lick wounds. And have her looked at for worms also. Take a feces sample when you go. This will help the Dr. also.

Okay that is not self mutilation. Your mother should have taken your cat to the Vet once the cat acted like it was in any pain or was having an ongoing problem. I cant say what is wrong with the cats leg but its could be possible that she has an infection. Cats mouths are full of bacteria so her licking an open skin wound is not helping the situation. Please just take her to a vet she needs medical care, the longer you wait the more you risk kittys life. Best of luck

It sounds definitely like self mutilation. One of my cats was diagnosed with it and she did exactly the same, ripping out her fur and chewing on the leg. Another option is flees (cats chew often on flee bites) or an infection. But whatever it is - you will have to take her to the vet. Self mutilating behavior is treated with Prozac for cats. My cat did not receive any medication and recovered after a few weeks. The most important thing is to look into the reasons: Cats don't take changes in their environment well (moving house, new pets, new people). It has nothing to do with "turning stupid" - you are dealing with an intelligent and sensitive animal.

I agree with whoever said it's possibly OCD. cats CAN be obsessive compulsive. they'll give her medication for it. it could also however be nerves. when cats are stressed they do stuff like this. my aunt's cat pulled almost all her hair out from stress. take her to the vet, if it's either of these things they;ll give her medication to calm her down.

it could also be allergies like others have mentioned, no matter what it is VERY important you take her to the vet. if it's allergies it will get worse and worse, if it's OCD or stress she could wind up hurting herself badly if you don't get her help.

Why don't you take it to the vet?? It could be a fungus or skin infection that you can't see or treat. Cats don't 'turn stupid' they just can't tell you what their problem is. A Vet CAN understand what the problem is most of the time.

She could have gotten into something, a chemical that burned her. It could be an allergy that can be easily rectified. Or she could be trying to scratch a bug but, they do itch for a while. If it is bleeding it needs to be seen.
