What freeware should I use to rip video clips from a DVD?

I bought a DVD recently and want to rip some video clips (preferably in .avi form) to make a music video for personal usage. Any ideas on good freeware out there to use would be much appreciated.

try the windows movie makers, its pretty complicated software, but you usually have it on your computer.
