"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" -1st Timothy 2:5
Mary was a blessed women who God must have held in high regard.
Mary was only mentioned once after the gospel of John and it said she was at a prayer meeting (Acts 1:4). Bible says she was in need of a savior (so she sinned) Luke 1:47. She did not 'know' Joseph UNTIL after jesus was born . Jesus was her firstborn Luke 2:7, in the greek (Prototokon) NOT only born (monogene). Mary commands man to follow her son, not her John 2:5.
"Mary is ummaculate, the mohter of God, spouse of the Holy Spiriit, Propitiary of the world and the Gate of Heaven" This was introduced for the first time by Pope Pius lX in 1854.

It is a curious fact that Evangelical Protestants seem to have a major problem with the Virgin Mary, it is a problem that goes far beyond theological reason and debate.
I n some quarters there seems to be a major antipathy, almost hatred directed at one of the key figures in the story of redemption.
Some Protestant apologists write of the Mother of the Redeemer almost as if She were the enemy of God and you have to wonder how can this come about.
Perhaps it has something to do with the misogynistic tendencies that were evident in many of the reformers, and have left as their legacy a great deal of ignorance and mis-understanding.
As Jesus is the new Adam so Mary is the new Eve and God only came into this world because of Mary`s `Fiat` and total humility.
All the Christian churches need to re-evaluate the sublime role of the Mother of Christ and see the richness of Marian devoution as it really is.

"Mary, blessed art thou among women"
Realize that it does not say "Blessed are thou above other women". Many Catholics seem to put her on a level plain with Christ, which is terribly wrong. She has no redemptive power, she cannot save anyone. The only way to the Father is through the Son. I heard a catholic man say once that his mother had told him that "If Jesus can't get you in the front door of heaven, Mary will sneak you in the back". WHAT SACRILEGE!!! This grieves the Spirit of God and I would wager that it grieves Mary also. She never intended to be set on such a high pedestal and would not have wished it.

Define "Catholic". I am a Catholic, just not of the "Roman" variety.
I think the ancient Church was right. Declaring Mary "Ever Virgin" and "Theotokos' in Council was meet and right. She deserves a place of Highest Honor among all humankind.
I also thing that Protestants do put Her too low. Without Mary's saying "yes" to God...there would have been no Incarnation.
"Blessed art thou amongst women" said the Archangel.
And I say: "Amen"

We Catholics honor Mary because she was chosen above all creatures to be the Mother of God. She was most blessed above all. She chose to carry our Savior in her womb. God honored her above all creatures by making her the mother of His Son. In honoring Mary we are following the example of God Himself. Mary's special privileges were given to her by God, not man. So, no, Catholics do not honor her to much. I'm sure we don't love near as much as Jesus does.
God bless,
Stanbo

How on earth is it possible to esteem the "Mother of God" above the message of Jesus Christ. It (the message) is all about love. Not traditions, not hierarchy, not anything else. Mother Mary will aways be respected, but not at the expense of the original message of Christ.

Matthew 12:47 Someone told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you."
48He replied to him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?"
49Pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers.
Look how much exaltation Jesus gave Mary. By the way, the verses above also show that she is not a virgin.
And think of it: You call Mary, the mother of God? How can God have a mother, if Mary was human, and God is spirit? The Trinity is illogical! Learn the truth.
