Because a wedding is tangible and can be bought with money. A marriage cannot be paid for and most people are not mature enough to handle the commitment and work level of a marriage--they just think they do and then wonder why the marriage fails. There is an old adage: "Even marriages made in heaven require real work here on earth" and most people do not grasp the significance of that statement....

I'm going to play devil's advocate here....I am putting alot of effort into my wedding and have put just as much effort into my 4 year relationship & will into my marriage to come! As for others I completely agree that so many people, mainly girls, put so much into the big day with little or no focus on the reality at hand-The Marriage! One factor of this may be that too many rush into the engagement/marriage way too quickly. Like I said earlier I have been with my fiance for 4 years now and engaged for 1 year. Yes the wedding is a big ordeal but we are more than ready for marriage. We are both at "that" point in our lives and are ready for all that a marriage will bring us good & bad! I think it's simply a question of maturity....

Some people get married just to have a wedding, it's unfortunate. I think some expect marriage to be like the fairy tales we grew up on...the prince and princess riding off into the sunset for happily ever after. And when it's not like they expected they think they made a mistake or something is wrong with the relationship.

I don't think weddings take effort- they just take money so therefore it's easy to pay for something then really work on something.
If you could "pay" for a marriage, they would prob last longer.

It's much easier to buy something then to actual work and think about something- buying junk and paying for a cater shouldn't be considered "effort"!!

They're caught up in the fantasy wedding. It's solely focused on that day........and people don't really think about the future until they are in it.
