I can see that i upset you with this Question. but i do have historical proof that i am right. and i have Biblical proof that God does not want us to observe any pagan holidays. this does mean both christmas and easter. thier is a day to celebrate Jesus dying for our sins that is not pagan,it is Passover. and though we do not know the true date of Jesus' birth, he would be heart broken to see his brothers and sisters mocking him with a pagan celebration. why dont you look into it for yourselves. you may find a new truth.

Jeremiah 10:
10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
10:5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

Daddysgirl If this is true then surely we can not eat meat sacrificed to idols this would indeed be upsetting to God right? We are free. Christ died and we can now have that which we eat blessed. Call not unholy that which I have made holy. Did the sacrifice provided by Christ teach us nothing should we continue to be under the law or are we free from the penalty of law. If I place a tree in my home to celebrate paganism I have surely sinned the same if I eat meat sacrificed to idols and am in agreement with sacrificing such animals to this false God yet if my conscience is clear I am free. If the tree harms your conscience you should definitely not have one.

Okay, I see your point, (although I need verses for you claim that the Bible says no to pagan holidays)

But its only tradition. I am not worshipping a pagan God by celebrating Christmas, I believe God knows in my heart I believe the birth of Jesus is the reason I celebrate. I dont believe God would be dis-pleased.

Cool! You speak for Jesus Christ and do so without fear of the sin of blasphemy that You've committed by stating Jesus would be heart broken; a mere mortal interpretating the Son of God's reaction to Christmas! I'm both amazed by You having this intimate knowledge of Jesus's state of emotion and that You are the one that God sees fit to deliver this! Christianity really does have something for everyone.

I know, I know. We probably shouldn't celebrate it, but it's so ingrained in our culture....We celebrate Advent, the days leading to Christmas, with a wreath and a calendar. I just can't give up a holiday that I have always loved, for spiritual reasons (i.e. celebrate the birth of Christ), even if the origins are quesitonable. To defend those who started celebrating Mass on Christmas, they "baptized" the "pagan" symbols for Christianity.

Maybe you just don't want to celebrate Christmas because your cheap. We celebrate Christmas as a reminder of Jesus birth not exactly that 12/25 is his Bday. The exchanging of gifts is as the 3 Kings did. Maybe you need to pray more about this.

You just don't get it. You are obviously trapped in some sort of cultish mentality, and I feel sorry for you. I really do.

I don't care what your cult teaches you. Even as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ came in the flesh to redeem mankind...so His Body, (The Church) redeems the world and the flesh by Her Presence and her Sacraments.

That redemption includes the calendar, the trees, holidays (N.B. "Holy Days" - where do they think the word comes from??) - yes...and everything!!

Christ sanctifies the world. That's what the Church did for the pagan holidays around Dec. 25th. Redeemed them. Made them holy.

That's what Christmas (and the Incarnation) is all about!

But you probably deny the Incarnation, too, so what's the bloody point of even talking to you?

I;m not offended, I am a Christian who celebrates the birth, life, crucifixion, and ressurection of Jesus every day of the year. Praise the Lord. I do not put up any Christmas decorations the way most people do, and I give to my friends and family all year long and not just one day a year. The Lord does not bless me only one day a year, and I dont' celebrate Him only one day a year. praise the Lord!

So very, very naive you are!!!!!!!! Educate yourself!!!
The Christmas tree in part comes from St Boniface who used the evergreen as an illustration of Psalm 1 where the person who is connected with God's word will be like a tree whose leaves are always green.
It is an evergreen- representing eternal life. It points upward toward heaven. We put an angel or a star on top to represent that. We decorate it in red-representing the Blood of Christ, green- representing eternal life, white- representing purity, purple, gold, and silver- representing royalty because Christ is King. God made everything in this world and it can all be used to glorify Him.
Go tell your Daddy this, as he did not teach you much about religion.
