Inasmuch as 'normal' is a very wide range these days I can't speak to how much it is "normal" -- but an increasing amount of males feel like females.

Likewise, there are many females who feel like men inside and are not happy as such with their physical bodies. The term is known as 'gender dysphoria' if it is a problem and people who exhibit the issue are known as transsexuals.

Transsexuality was once a secretive matter. It is becoming a more mainstream diagnosis for those who are born one sex but have the attitudes and orientation of the other.

Contrast this with intersexuality (something altogether different) which is a physical manifest ion caused by genetics whereby the person has some combination of the characteristics of both sexes.

There are mechanisms for exploring this type of sexuality on the internet in the forms of discussion groups and message boards. Those who once were isolated are increasingly finding those with the same issues.

Well, I was a big tomboy growing up and always wished I was a boy. I'm an adult now and "normal" as far as normal goes (i.e., not gay, transgendered, transsexual, etc.). We have a word for girls who act like guys, maybe we need to come up with a word for the opposite...we have tomboy from the girls, how about sallygirl for the boys? :)

Yes, I think it's normal coming from a girl who always felt like a guy.
