Four years old is too young to be quit laying. My chickens lay eggs year round but that may be because I live in a mild climate. Did you change anything like their feed or their nesting accommodations? Do they have a proper nesting site? If they are free roaming they may have nesting sites you haven't found yet. My chickens will lay in the next boxes but some of them will find their own nesting sites. Behind the wood pile, under the lawn mower, in the well house, between the hay bales....etc. It is like an Easter egg hunt when I realize a hen has decided to hide her eggs.
Another thing to consider is predators. I've have found snakes, raccoons, foxes and dogs. All of which will eat eggs. Found my border collie robbing a nest one time. I wore her butt out and I don't think she's done it again. Just another possibility.
My chickens also go on the fritz when they are molting but that only lasts for a few weeks.

Actually, this is not unusual. I found this piece for you at a research site from the University of New England. Hope it helps.
The average life span for a chicken is 5-7 years. A laying hen will go through a laying cycle every year, but as she gets older she will lay fewer eggs, and bigger. Some hens will end up laying only double-yolker eggs! Because of the drop in egg numbers, commercial producers replace their hens after their first, or at most second, laying cycle.

sometime while a fowl gets to a definite age they quit producing eggs. some breeds basically at the instant are not made to offer in any respect. what style of chicks did you get? i don't think of in any respect that a fowl has something to do with it. We strengthen chickens too and have no roosters in our team of layers. Do you feed them oyster shell? That helps with the production of the shell. additionally, you're able to check out the author Storey. She has magnificent books on elevating cattle, and you're able to answer very almost any question basically via analyzing her e book.

Is it winter there? If you have a chicken coop for year around they should be laying, if not they won't.
