LOL as a breeder of german shepherds this is the first time I've ever heard of mating and a tie worded this way! lol
Anyhoos most males will fiqure it out on their own; no need to interfere. That is unless you have a really inexperienced male or a highly dominant female that refuses to stand for a male. Then you will have to have someone hold the female in standing position (make sure it is in fact time to breed her or you're likely to get bit) and guide your male on her and his penis inside her.
But for starters I would put them together first and give them about 20-40 minutes; if he doesn't seem to be getting the hang of it then step in.

I am sure they get it right 9 out of 10. Some times they need to be directed if the height diff is a lot or if the ***** keeps shifting. If the ***** is ready it shouldnt be a probelm

Neuter the damn dog. There are too many unwanted and euthanized pets in the world to begin with.
If your on yahoo answers asking about breeding, you should NOT be studding this dog. Have him neutered, it's healthiest for him and may even show you not only care, but that you might have a brain cell left that tells you it's the right thing to do.

There's no sure way. If your dog can't be bred, just get him neutered. It will save you money and heartache in the long run, and may save some shelter pets too!

If your male can not hit hte correct spot on his own he has no business being a stud dog.
It sounds like you have no business breeding dogs.

they can usually figure it out on their own, but sometimes you do have to guide the penis. be careful!!! one of my regular customers was breeding his pitts and had to do to cause it kept missing and it turned and attacked him, needed massive amounts of stitches
