Which TV is better? Lcd or Plasma? Is it true that a plasma will completely go out in about 4 or 5 years?

I just bought an LCD yesterday and, from what I was told and had read, the Plasmas have a tendency to have images burned into them over time, especially if you plan to hook up a gaming system to it. The LCD won't do this. As far as the lifespan, I've heard the same for both and if anything goes wrong with the screen, you're screwed. Apparently, that's rare. They both look incredible, though!! Be sure to get set up for HD for the ultimate picture (I don't know where you live or if you have cable or satellite, but with our cable company (COX) we are able to trade our digital cable box in for an HD/DVR one for $11 per month.)! I'm suffering a bit of buyer's remorse for what we spent, but what the hell, right? :) Merry Christmas!!

LCD is better....
Plasma last about 30 years.
Plasmas cost less than LCD
LCD has come down in price
LCD picture is brighter than Plasma and works in most homes better because they are back lit and push light through the screen while Plasma basically glow a collor and when it with direct sunlight the screen is washed out.
Today you can get 1080P LCD televisions at a reasonable cost that is the top of the line from a pixel count perspective. More pixels better the picture, same as your cameras mega pixels.

You can typically save $500 for a good brand but lower quality Plasma vs. and LCD.

Burning Images is a thing of the past for Plasmas.... I have a Hitachi Plasma and have actually frozen by screen for more than 10 hours yet no burn outs occur. I own all next gen consoles and I feel Plasmas are the best TVs to play these games. I own a Sony LCD in my other room and the main problem is that the refresh times in LCDs isn't as fast as Plasmas... This really is a problem for me as all the games have fast action and the thing leaves a ghosting on my LCD screen (a slight blur as the TV doesn't refresh fast enough)... It isn't an issue for the ones who have played only on LCDs, but when I moved on to a 42" Plasma, then the difference irks the eye on LCDs This never occurs on a Plasma cause the refresh time is 2ms.... Although the newer LED LCDs have much better refresh rate, they are really expensive (way above 1000$). For a real gamer looking for a TV 40" and above, I advice a Plasma mainly cause it's cheaper and the refresh time is better than LCDs. One can buy a 40" Plasma for the price of a smaller LCD....

LCD. Plasma's will get the image-burn if you are a gamer, or if you watch a channel that has an image that is always in the same spot.

Plasma has a better picture. But if the same picture is left on there too long, it burns into the screen. For instance, if you leave the same DVD menu on for a while, you can slighty see the menu in the background. Even after you change the backgroud.

The LCDs are now just as good as plasma. they are lighter (plasma is very heavy) I got a factory refurbished 37inch one @ Overstock shipped for $860. it is a Vizio and works great.
