I am in the process of applying for jobs, sending applications via e-mail. My applications contain technical language and names not recognised by Microsoft Word and I would like the spell check disabled in the document I send as otherwise lots of words are highlighted as wrong, despite being correctly spelt. I have seen it done, but want to know how.

These answers relate to the users machine. (S)he does not want to disable thier spell checking, they want the document they have sent to a recruiter/company not to spell check it, as it looks terrible to the company (basiclly looks like they've just got an application from someone that can't spell).

Unfortunalty in Microsoft Word, this is not something you have control over, as the setting relate to the end user machine, not your own machine. Best idea is to use a different format to convert to prior to you sending the application/resumé off to the company.

Personally, when I email my resumé I always send it in PDF format...this is for two reasons, one...it's more presentable and profesional in appearence, and two...no one can make any 'edits' to your document.

Last paragraph is basiclly what nostriel is suggesting :)

Hi. When you are in the document, go into "Tools", then click on "options". From there, select the "spelling and grammar" tag. You will now see a series of ticked boxes. The top one is "check spelling as you type". Un-tick this, then click OK. Try it by spelling a word incorrectly, and it should NOT mark it up.
Alternatively, each word that is marked up as wrong can be ignored. When spell check marks it up, click into the word, so that it is highlighted, then right click on the word. This will bring up a list of options, and one of them is "ignore". If you select this, then spell check will never pick up that word again. If there are not too many words, then this is a good way to do it.
Hope you get a new job soon!

Select all the text Ctrl-A
In tools -> Set Language: there is the language u choose.
There uncheck "Do not check spell...." or choose a language that u are sure there is no language check.

But u also can make your document a pdf (using pdf995, etc) (Adobe Reader has everyone), which will look nicer, as u can protect it from writing, and many more.

if there chemical/names or are maximum excellent, upload them to the dictionary, then they wont arise with those lines below! thats about the in elementary words way i am going to imagine of eliminating them, that and only attempting to ignore them.
