Well I am currently 5'8.5 and weigh in at 219lbs. My legs are solid, my upper body is lacking. From my pubic bone to my rib cage is where I carry my weight. I have joined the weight watchers program this week as what I was doing before wasn't giving me great results. Up untill this week my gym routine is this, cardio to start for 60-70 min, that would either be straight on the elliptical or a combo of that and the treadmill. I would then proced to the wieght machines, alternating upper and lower body everyday. I gained weight while doing this for 3 months 5 days a week (likley muscle) but only lost 4 inches. So do I need to look at my routine in the gym? Switch it up because that didn't work. I eat well and never seem to get rid of the extra fat. I need to lose 68lbs and think I am doing this all wrong. I am active and live a very active lifestyle, camping, hiking, kayaking, swimming, snowshoeing. Weight watchers should help with diet now I need help with exercise. Thanks!!

This is where I get some of the help I need with diet, exercise and group support...www.sparkpeople.com. I've also joined TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), which is cheaper than Weight Watchers and have no diet plans you must follow. It's cheaper too, at $24 per year plus chapter dues of about $1.00 per week. Sparkpeople is a web support site, with hundreds of groups you can fit into, plus it's all free. You can track your food, look up exercises (they show you how to do them), and read stories about others who have reached their goals. Check it out. It's fun, as well as educational & helpful. My user name is the same there as it is here, so maybe I'll see ya later. Oh and you get points for posting messages and tracking your food, and other such things. Sorta like on this site...the points are absolutely useless, but fun to get. And if you use my name as your referral, I get points!! But, seriously, this site is a really good place to go for help with exercises, which sounds like the kind of help you need. I know, from experience, that aerobic dancing is one of the best cardio workouts you can do. It's low impact, so it's good for your knees. And you can do it anywhere with just a CD player and your favorite get up and go music. What better kind of exercise can you do than something that's fun? Do that for 30 minutes everyday, for a week. Then, increase it every week by 10 minutes, until you're doing one hour every day. Change your music, so it's not boring. I lose about 3 pounds a week doing that routine. You don't bulk up with muscles as much either, but you give your heart a good workout, which is a good thing. Hope this helps you in your weight loss journey. <*)))><

All due respect to your best intentions, but I'd be willing to bet something valuable that your diet is not as tight as you think. For doing that much effort, weight should be falling off of you.

I have a number of clients with your exact issue (very common), and almost all come to me with "by diet is really good, I just need help with exercise". Almost without exception, when I have them do a food log, or if we discuss their intake, there are big diet issues there that they didn't know about.

I would HIGHLY recommend doing a food log and speaking with a nutritionist about your goals. It costs WAY less than Weight Watchers, and you actually learn something. It's far less expensive than most other solutions, and attacking nutrition usually works. Curves, sadly to say, rarely works for experienced exercisers. Great for beginners, but not much else. Weight watchers CAN work, so that's up to you. It's good at teaching portion control.

Also, you should be doing your weight routine first, THEN the cardio. This is a big issue, too, and consulting an expert at your gym about this would have revealed this to you almost immediately. Doing cardio second can enhance the fat-burning effects of your gym time, and it leaves you in better position to maximize muscle/lean mass retention while you lose fat.

That said, I wouldn't worry about your gym routine. It's likely got some issues, but diet would be more of an impact. In fact, I'm certain your weight routine doesn't match your goals, but it's hard to say what would need to change first. Most people's weight routines are a mess.

Anyway, sorry for rambling.

CURVES! I cant stress enough what an amazing job they can do. Memberships are very reasonable and the people there are amazing. It is not intimidating at all, and you definetly see results. Especially this season, they have all sorts of special offers making the price ridiculously manageable. So that is what I suggest. If there is not a Curves where you live, then joing the YMCA and getting ridiculously involved with the womens program will help. You will meet friends and I know the Y Womens Group in my town worked with weight watchers. They had weekly weigh ins and posted goals and progress on the walls of the womens only facilities. I think one of these options would be your best bet to lose the bulk weight. Then do something fun to stay in shape, like kayaking or rock climbing.
Good Luck!

Of course moms are more worried about skin cancer and their children than 10 years ago. 10 years ago people barely knew anything about skin cancer. Today we have so much more info on different diseases and sicknesses, and we have so much more research. Also, people can usually get skin cancer from being in the sun as a kid, so you always have to be cautious.

I'm sorry but most likely you have extra skin from the stretch of pregnancy. It cannot be removed with exercise. A tummy tuck would be needed.
