Wheat contains three main parts the brain, the germ and the endosperm.
Bran is the hard outer layer of grains. It is often produced as a by-product of milling in the production of refined grains, which only use the endosperm
Whole wheat breads retain the endosperm and germ as well as the bran.
However, you need to be careful. The FDA doses not define what “Whole Grain”, means when it comes to foods. If you want proof of this, look at general mills cereals. All of them list themselves as “Whole Grain”, yet they contain very little fiber.
If you want real whole-wheat products look for “whole wheat", "rolled oats", or "whole corn" as the first ingredient within the ingredients list.
Another way to identify whole grains in the foods you eat is to look in the nutritional facts information and check if the food item contains dietary fiber. If it contains a significant amount, it most likely contains whole grains. "Wheat flour" is not a whole grain and therefore does not indicate a whole grain product. Many breads are colored brown (often with molasses) and made to look like whole grain, but are not.

Depends on where you get it.
From a home baker's perspective the difference is the inclusion of the germ of the wheat. For a whole wheat (or whole any grain) bread I'm going to look at the packaging on the flour very carefully to make sure that the manufacturer hasn't removed the germ. A common practice, as the germ contains unsaturated fats that spoil in less time than the starches, proteins and fiber of the bran and endosperm.
From a commercial perspective I'm not so experienced, but would suggest that the bran bread is likely to have much more fiber in it.

As it says, whole wheat contains all the parts, the bran(outside) the endosperm and the germ. All the parts are good for you. Bran is mostly fiber. Bran bread is usually dark and is made with molasses. Whole wheat is usually lighter, but not white like white bread that is made from bleached flour.
