My husband and I live in Indiana. He is a student here. We both have out of state drivers licenses. We are buying a new car in the next couple of weeks here in IN. Will we need to obtain IN drivers licenses? What about the plate on the new car? Not sure what to do!

It depends what state you want to have the vehicle registered in. You won't have to get a new license if you want to register the vehicle in your homestate. You can probably do most of the registration through the mail to your home state. If you want to register the vehicle in IN, then yes, you should get IN licenses. If you spend the majority of the year there you should do that regardless.

we live in north carolina. we recently bought a new car in Pa. we have nc drivers licenses. when we first moved to nc we registered our cars using our Pa driver licenses with no problems. if you plan to have the car registered in In you will probablyhaveto get a In drivers license. If you buy a car from a state different from the state you live in you are responsible to register and pay the taxes, etc in that state. You usually have 30 days and you get a in-transit temporary plate.
