Let him get away with it, then the day after Christmas tell him that you knew what it was. That way he feels good about getting away with something on Christmas, but you don't feel like you have to keep it from him.

I wouldnt tell him. Sometime later, say a month after X-mas, you can gently tell him, without blaming your niece. He would surely appreciate your thoughtfulness, and perhaps get you another present, this time a real surprise one!.
