Hard to just pick one great champ as there were so many greats!
Here is a list of some great fighters:

Joe Louis. The Brown Bomber was Heavyweight king for nearly 12 years during his storied career.

Rocky Marciano. The Brockton Blockbuster was undefeated and had an astounding record of 49-0-0 with 43 kayos.

Sugar Ray Robinson. Held titles multiple times at middleweight and also was the welterweight champ. Amazing fighter.

Henry Armstrong. Held multiple title simultaneously. This feat will never be seen again.

Archie Moore. The 'Ol Mongoose was the Lgt Heavy champ for the longest period and had most knockouts in career.

Willie Pep. Wille won 230 fights in his great career and 173 of his first 174 fights. One of the slickest fighters ever.

Muhammad Ali. The Greatest held multiple Heavyweight titles and is regarded as the fastest heavyweight of all time.

There are just so many great champions in the history of boxing to name just one.

Sugar Ray Robinson is by far one of the top boxing champs of all time. Along side with Ali and other great boxers

Muhammad Ali is the obvious choice because of his world fame , but ill say Sugar Ray Robinson is #1 along side Ali

It depends on the weight division you're asking about, but the only undefeated heavyweight boxer to retire undefeated was Rocky Marciano, after that in the other weights I would say Sugar Ray Robinson, or Bernard Hopkins in his prime wasn't too bad.
