There are 3500 calories per lb of body weight. If you increase your physical activity enough to burn 3500 calories, and eat 3500 calories less per week, you should be able to lose the recommended 2 lbs per week for healthy, sustainable weight loss. Much of your ability to do this by Christmas though will depend on how physically active you are now, how healthy you are now, and how much weight you think you need to lose versus how much weight you body feels it needs to carry to maintain healthy functioning. Unfortunately, there is no safe way to gaurantee that you will lose 5 lbs by Christmas (notice I said safe...) Best of luck.

There are 3500 calories in 1 lb. of body fat. So you figure out now, to lose 5 lb (which should actually be body fat only, not muscle mass), how much you can eat and how much you should exercise. Whatever you do, your calorie intake shouldn't be less than 1200-1300 per day, otherwise body goes into starvation mode and starts storing everything the moment you start eating normally again.

Well the first answer said 1000 cal, thats unhealthy as your body will store it as fat because you would be in starvation mode, I would go to caloriecount.com, it is a great site for counting calories and it has a calculator that will show how much cals your body needs to sustain your current weight, and how many cals you need to knock to lose the 5 lbs before xmas, drink lots of water too that always helps....

Well you should find out what your BMI is (Basal Metabolic Rate) this determins how many calories your body should have while laying down at rest.

and then you should be more concerd about how many caloires you should burn to lose 5lbs. You need to burn 3500 calories to burn 1lb of fat, so of course that is 17500 calories you need to burn to lose 5lbs of fat, you want to focus on losing fat and not just weight because hell you can just cut of a limb or something, some weight like muscle, brain tissue, bone and other stuff is very important this is why you just don't want to lose weight you want to lose fat, because losing fat will make you look tighter and firmer.

pills..drugs...food..everyone misses the most important aspect..exercise...if people would exercise more they would not have to worry so darn much about food...Are you really serious about doing this? We are talking about hard work. Putting down your little debbies, getting off your butt and not only going on a diet but EXERCISING!!! Even if you lose the weight it will come right back if you do not have the desire and motivation to not only look cute but to be healthy. it is going to take alot of inner strength I can assure you of that.

1.) eat 4-5 small meals a day

2.) drink lots of water

3.)exercise every day

4.) do not eat 4-6 hours before you sleep

You must factor an equation based on :
1)Your Body Type
2)The type of job and daily exercise you do
3)Do you have a Normal Body Mass running weight

Consider those and you'll find the right method for you!
