The idea that Jesus died for our sins is ridiculous. Everyone is accountable for their own sins and will be punished accordingly.
It is true that the Bible says that Jesus died for our sins, but you must remember that even Jesus' apostles couldn't explain why Jesus had to die if he was the Son of God so they conjour up the idea that Jesus died for our sins so that no one would be responsible for their sins. How sad.

My belief is different than either of the two you listed.
I believe I am guilty of sin. I believe the punishment for sin is death. I believe Jesus stepped in and paid the penalty for me. I believe God accepts me into his presence through prayer and worship, because my sin debt has been satisfied.
When I stand before God, after my death, He will see that my name has been written in the Lamb's book of Life, because my sin has been accounted for by Jesus Christ, the Lamb.
That is referred to as the Great White Throne Judgment.
There will be another Judgment referred to as the Bema Seat. That is where any rewards are given to anyone who has served God in a fruitful way. The reward will be in the form of Crowns. Those Crowns will be given to us that we may lay them at the feet of Jesus Christ, symbolizing He made it all possible.
As far as your question goes, "all u need to get to heaven is believe and pray"....the answer is a resounding NO.
It involves believing you deserve death so much, and that Jesus covered you so much, that you immediately begin a path of change. Regret for having sinned, and gratitude for God's plan for saving you from it.
If you want to message me, you may.

To all those who thinks that Jesus died for our sins and no matter what sins we do here on earth is OK after we accepted Him as our Lord and Savior...think again!!!
Maybe you're acceptance is not genuine.
To all of those who thinks that doing only good works will get them to heaven...You're efforts will be wasted!!!
You need Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Ok just a minute here...
How can you see Almighty God as a punisher? Is that one of His 99 names? Look again. We may view it as punishment but it isn't. We are set straight once again by various means. For instance, the Quran says what goes around comes around (not in those exact words of course!) and everyone gets their dues. As far as in the Hereafter, I would consider that to more of a form of punishment for our sins the Quran talks about but then again, the Quran also says not to despair of the Mercy of Allah. So is really a punishment, or is it a fear the people who breathe hatred fear? In that sense I wouldn't call it punishment at all. I'd call it getting what they deserve.

Both of your scenarios are correct, and both wrong also.
Our sins before we accept Jesus are fully forgiven at that time gone forgotten by God, but if we continue to live in sin, and do not repent (turning away from sin, and no longer doing it) then we will be held accountable for these sins for all eternity.

ya think,
u r right that ,
one would go to heaven no matter............ u pray to jesus.
very practically,
we are only puppets, and He guides us
so He himself is responsible for our deeds.
so He has to forgive US.

Jesus died on the Dogwood Tree Cross, but you will still be punished ( chastised ) by God...
John 3:16 KJV: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
