The fleas should have died:

That's the Bayer info site on advantage.

How long ago did you apply the advantage? Was it more than 4 weeks ago? maybe it wore off?

It is possible that you carried the fleas home on something (your clothes?) and now they are in your house. Then they jumped onto the dogs. The Advantage stuff will only kill them once they get on your dogs.

You might want to contact Bayer with the date of your last application and see if you can re-dose.

Good luck!

It doesn't repel the fleas, but it does kill them after coming into contact with the Advantage (the fleas don't have to bite for this to happen) This was taken from one of the many websites selling Advantage:

"When you've got a dog, you're going to get fleas. This is one of the better flea control products on the market for dealing with fleas on dogs, and you should consider buying it if you've got recurring flea problems. Advantage can stop fleas from biting within a minute or two - when they come in contact with your dog, they will get damage to their nervous system simply by crawling around in the fur and getting exposed to the medicine. This can give you immediate relief for flea bites, because you won't have to wait around for the eggs or larva to die off like with some methods. "

You are correct by stating that when the fleas bite the dogs, they will die, but it depends on how many fleas your dog bought home. I s it possible that the three that you found aren't the only ones??

I would sprinkle some borax in the carpet and wash all things belonging to the dog.

Also a nice mix of Geraium, Tea Tree oil and Citronell added to some water is a nice (ALL NATURAL) spritzer for your dog and his surroundings to help repell fleas. (Keep this mix refrigerated)

First of all don't bring your animals over to your mother-in-laws anymore. Even if the Advantage works on the animal, fleas can stay dorment in you carpets/house for years. Everything needs to be treated not just the animals. Make sure also that the Advantage that you are using kills the flea eggs/larvea.

You can use the stuff that people use on carpets when their kids come home from school with head lice. Spray the carpets, and furniture, The fleas can live in your carpets and fabric your furniture is made of.. I read the cans when my kids came home from school years ago & it stated that it would also kill fleas. Just on a humorist note I read the bottle of flea shampoo at my son's house and it said that it will kill lice. It would be cheaper if the kids came home with head lice. Just a thought.
