Depends on who you ask. Everyone thinks their way is best. lol

I think in the most GENERAL terms possible, a good parent is one who makes the safety and well (mental, physical, emotional) of their child above all else. People do this in various ways, and it entails a lot of different things. But generally speaking, that's what I believe.

In my opinion, some of the dumbest arguments people have are over the best way to do this. How can anyone decide for another parent what the best way for that person to raise their child is? It baffles me. From the working mom/stay at home mom debate, to the breastfeeding/bottle feeding issue, to home school vs. traditional school, it's ignorant for people to think their way is the only way and everyone else is damaging their children.

(Steps off soapbox)

What I believe:
Children should be given respect and parents should expect it back.
Answer all of their questions as honestly as possible.
Love them unconditionally, regardless of religion or sexual preference.
Let your children know that you will always be there for them, not just until they are 18.
Discipline when you need to, but don't hit unneccessarily, it hurts, not just physically.
Do your best to keep them healthy, comfort them when they are sick.
Tell them every day, by words or actions that you love them more than life. You never know if or when you won't get that chance again!

There are so many traits we could choose from, but I think the important one is communication. Parents listening to their children and vice verse as well as being open enough to speak on different subjects that concern both child and parent. Have an open forum.

I don't think there's any one correct answer to that question, but I believe the key is love lots of love balanced with discipline of course... If there's lots of love and time shared with your child, then there won't have to be much discipline your child will want more than anything to please you... Love and time shared is the key to being a good parent...

If you ask yourself am I a good parent? And you can honestly say you do your best what does it matter. One persons best might be another person's mediocre.
