Every one's case is different. It depends on what the physical requirements are for. Dehydration, inability to physically eat, etc. Often times after Surgery for any given length of time per needs. Sometimes they administer drugs into it through a tap in the unit with a syringe to help counteract an antistetic. They closely monitor bodily conditions ie. blood platelets, Oxygen, Balances etc. For instance if a Potasium level is down, they can bring it back up in most cases. It sll depends on what the bodies physical needs are.
