My dear old nan needs a powerful easy-to-hold magnifyer for reading papers, books ets. (What a f**g liberty!) Where in central London retail can I find something like this? Please note, I need real-life SHOPS, not web or mail order thanks.

Try opticians or the major high street chemists (Boots) - as they tend to stock magnifying glasses. If they don't stock any I'm sure they will be able to recommend somewhere.
