Practice infront of a mirror an believe in yourself.
Your teacher should try teaching as well.
As for the comments by the class, just practice every day an show them up, sounds like you have all the incentive to work hard an stick it to them.
Confidance will grow, be patient, if its your passion express it in your movement an get so wrapped up in the music that everything else just becomes part of the furniture.
Believe in yourself an make every move like you mean it.
Routines were always hard for me, an I used to get a lot of stick, but when it came to freestyle they were the ones struggling.

Chin up,
An go get em tiger!!!

This is typical in the performing arts. It gets worse the higher up you go in your skill. If you're not prepared for it, then you shouldn't continue with your art. If you're prepared for rejection at auditions, bitchiness from the competition, and not having your teachers recognize you, then you have the right attitude and mind set to becoming a good performing artist.

The problem these days is that everyone thinks they are special and they are encouraged even when they screw up. That should not be the case. I think only bad teachers do that to keep students.

Good teachers will always push you and make you strive to better yourself. If you work hard and take constructive criticism and you are always looking to improve yourself, then you will indeed become special, and you will succeed. Don't expect it to come easy though. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication on your part.

i had exactly the same problem when i first started dancing - all the really good people there made me so nervous and everything i did seemed to go wrong! i kept at it though and now i'm a lead dancer in the next show my group is doing! it just takes practice. plus you have to act as though you're not nervous at all. then you won't appear nervous to other people, and so they'll think you're confident and won't notice as much if you make a mistake! Also, if you make a mistake, don't let it affect how you perform for ages after. i used to do this and it just makes you more worried and so you make more mistakes, which makes you more worried . . . . vicious circle! just forget about it if you make a mistake, and carry on doing you're best. eventually you'll become more confident in front of other people and you won't even have this problem any more. good luck, keep on dancing!

If you are determined to dancing, Nothing and nobody can stop you. Just follow few advices if suits to you: -
1. Take dance lessons from a teacher who has patience,
2. Whatever you learn, if possible, revise and practise same day,
3. Practise makes you perfect,
4. Whatever your teacher says listen carefully and follow,
5. When you dance, think that you are the best,
6. Have patience, confidence, respect for your teacher and practise.

you see the result within 6 months.

Just close your eyes before you start, and pretend you are alone, at home. Or, pretend you are performing in front of thousands of people cheering for you. That one can get the adrelalin rushing, if you have a really good imagination. Part of it depends upon how you react to things. If you perform well under pressure, not peer pressure, but real pressure, then pretending you are performing would help. If not, pretend you are alone. Hope I made sense, and it helps you. Best of luck!

I had the same problem in drama, and you just have to tell yourself you are doing it for you, not them. Ask your teacher if they would be prepared to give you private tutoring so you improve, or ask a class mate who isn't bitchy to help you as well. Good luck and I'm sure you'll do fine!
